Sixteen Beers is the New Sixteen Candles

Maybe you thought this week there would be less beer than last. You were wrong. This week we have SIXTEEN beers. As if we couldn’t top last week, we did it again. I think this is our peak though… don’t expect too much from us.

THIS BEER FROM STRATHCONA IS ALL THAT AND THEN SOME

Strathcona Brewing brought some beautiful brews to cool you down on these hot days. The first brew is their All That And Then Some Pale Ale With Mosaic. This beer embodies the refreshing taste that you’re looking for (and then some) with a light body composed of pilsner and white wheat malts, as well as several hops that enhance the citrus flavour and floral tones of this beer. Next, their Beach Lemon Mandarin Radler is exactly what it sounds like: perfect for a day at the beach to quench your thirst with the combination of lemon peel, mandarin juice, and light beer to give you that tart and clean finish. Choose one or take them both, but trust me — these beers are your new go-to Summer brews for a BBQ or a beach hang.

WAKE ME UP WHEN SUMMER HAS BEGUN

Fieldhouse is on fire (who isn’t in this heat) with their new Summer brews and they are making me realllly impatient for Summer to be in full swing. Their Mandarin Berliner Weisse is a wheat and oat-based sour ale. It is soured with a Lactobacillus culture and hopped with Mandarina Bavaria with sweet citrus notes and fermented on fresh Mandarin zest and juice to make it acidic and flavourful. To reiterate in layman’s terms… this brew is made for Summer. It’s sour, it’s flavourful, and it’s refreshing.

The Carina Peach Sour Ale is crisp, tart and packed of peach flavour to give you that fresh taste and finish. Their Phaser Hazy IPA is a special release beer that is juicy and unfiltered, hopped like crazy to give off those good fruit notes. Lastly, their Starburst IPA is bursting with hops, allowing you to focus on their brilliance and let it take you to new heights. Join us in our adoration and TRY IT NOW!

NEED TO CALM DOWN? HAVE A BEER… IT MAKES EVERYTHING ZEN

If only it really worked that way. Either way, while it might not calm things down, it could calm you down for a short time. Silver Valley’s “Everything Zen” Dry Hopped Sour is the balance that you need in your life: the Sour to your sweet. Crisp sourness paired with the citrusy hop flavours balance this beer out perfectly. It will refresh you when things are getting heated and console you when you’re getting down. Come get your newest cuddle buddy and everything might start to feel better again.

WHY TAKE A TRIP WHEN YOU CAN DRINK SALT SPRING ISLAND?

Alright, so we can’t all afford to take a trip but the next best thing is drinking brews from nice places. With four brews from Salt Spring Island Brewing added to our shelves, we’ll have to do this in short. Their Golden Ale is an award-winning, drinkable session ale with a distinct toasty and nutty flavour and citrus hops. The Earl Grey IPA will be your best friend when you can’t decide between a cup of tea or a refreshing brew; a hard decision with this crisp brew filled with caramel sweetness and citrus/floral aromas. The Heather Ale is infused with local heather flowers, a small amount of hops, with a floral and honey aroma that gives you a cider/mead-like taste to your brew. Last but not least, their complex Seasonal Nettle Ale which is brewed with island-foraged stinging nettle and honey; leaving you with just the right amount of earth tones balanced with hops and honey.

I CRUSH, YOU CRUSH, WE ALL CRUSH “WOULD CRUSH”

A brand new brew from Twin Sails called “Would Crush” Raspberry Wheat Ale has hit the shelves and it fits all the characteristics of a good BC beer: raspberries (not a very long list for me). Simple and juicy, this beer started as a traditional American style wheat ale and then was packed with flaked and malted wheat and a truckload of raspberries. With a creamy mouthfeel and the fruity character, this beer is light and crisp and the perfect refresher to your hot afternoon (or evening). Crush it, crush it hard.

IF YOU DON’T STOP AND GET THIS BEER, YOU’RE UNDER ARREST

Happy to get Bridge Brewing from Vancouver on our shelves with one of their core beers and a seasonal release as well. Drinking The Fuzz Milkshake IPA is like taking a sip of a tropical milkshake with the tropical and peach flavours combined with a hint of vanilla to give it that milkshake taste, and lactose and flaked oats to give it the milkshake mouthfeel. Smooth, creamy, juicy and did I say smooth? Sounds perfect to me. Bootable Offense Aussie IPA is hopped with aussie hops which give it flavours of passion fruit, mango and pineapple. It has a hint of spice to top it all off and make it an enjoyable, easy-to-drink brew.

NEW BREWERY ALERT: LIFTED UP OUT OF THE OLD, INTO THE NEW

Incidents & Accidents is a brand new Brewing Company located in Vancouver, BC that is bringing new ideas to the Craft Beer industry. Their new and only brew so far is called the Lifted Super Lemon Hazy IPA. What makes this craft brew different from the rest is that it is made with plant terpenes from the same hemp plant that some marijuana strains come from so that the beer emulates the flavour of cannabis. This beer does NOT contain any marijuana but it is made to taste similar to it. Alongside this, enjoy the delicious taste of lemon (thanks to hops) to compliment it all. This is an exciting step in the craft beer industry and if you are into trying new things, this is the beer for you!

war+head.jpg

CHILDHOOD CANDY TO ADULT DRINKING BUDDY

Named after the candies you ate in your childhood (or your adulthood… whichever is true for you) this beer is reminiscent of the Warhead candy in all the best ways. Dead Frog Brewing nailed it with this War Head Imperial Kettle Sour, perfecting the fruity flavours of lemon and blackberry to get you puckered up and ready for the next swig.

See you next week!
